COSMETOLOGY
Designed to prepare students for careers in the beauty industry with skills necessary for haircutting, hairstyling, permanent waving, coloring, manicures, pedicures and basic skin care. Successful graduates are qualified to take the state board exam for a Cosmetology license.
This program is 1,500 clock hours in length.

Teaches how your image is determined by your personality, personal hygiene, and your ability to interact with others.
Bacteriology,Decontamination & Infection Control
These segments teach students how the spread of disease can be prevented and what precautions
should be taken to protect, technician’s and client’s health.
Shampooing, Rinsing & Conditioning
Hygienic care of the scalp and hair as well as correct scalp manipulations.Types of shampoos, conditioners and how to protect the client while receiving these and other salon services.
Haircutting
Teaches a various techniques of artistic haircutting using shears, razors and thinning shears.
Wet Hairstyling & Finger Waving
Teaches the basics principles and art of hairstyling while it employs shaping and directing of the hair to teach the dexterity, coordination and finger strength required of a proficient professional stylist. Blow-dry Styling is in this segment.
Thermal Hairstyling
Teaches proper use of thermal curling irons and explores different techniques and applications of the tools.
Permanent Waving
Teaches history of permanent waving, the chemicals used, and the many basic and advanced techniques used in the permanent waving process.
Hair Coloring
One of the most exciting, challenging and rewarding areas in the cosmetology profession is hair coloring and lightening.Teaches hair color consultation, color theory, classifications of hair color,types of permanent hair color and special problems in hair coloring.
Chemical Relaxers & Soft Curl Perm
Teaches a basic knowledge of products and procedures used when serving clients with very curly hair.
Thermal Hair Straightening
Hair straightening or pressing is a profitable service in the salon with clients who have curly hair and wish to straighten it. This segment teaches the correct procedures as well as how to protect the client's hair while doing a pressing service.
The Artistry of Artificial Hair
A basic knowledge of wigs and hair pieces and their care is taught in this segment.
Manicure and Pedicure
After completing this segment, the cosmetology student should be able to give a professional manicure and pedicure with massage as well as basic knowledge of artificial nail application.
The Nail and Its Disorders
This segment teaches the basic structure of the nail and teaches corrective procedures for common nail disorders and irregularities.
Theory of Massage
Massage helps to keep clients’ skin healthy and muscles firm. This segment teaches the correct method of applying massage along with the different basic movements used.
Facials and Facial Make-Up
A professional facial is one of the most enjoyable and relaxing services available to the salon client. These segments teach the correct procedures, how to determine which type products should be used and how to deal with special skin problems.
The Skin and Its Disorders
In this segment, the Histology of the Skin and its disorders are taught.
Removing Unwanted Hair
In this segment the student will receive a basic knowledge of the different types of hair removal and the procedures used in removing unwanted hair.
Cells, Anatomy and Physiology
A working knowledge of the structure and the anatomy and physiology of the human body forms the basis for the proper application of cosmetic services. This segment gives the student the basic knowledge of the structure and the functions of the human body.
Electricity and Light Therapy
This segment teaches the importance of how the benefits of electricity are important to the cosmetology profession.
Chemistry as Applied to Cosmetology
Professional cosmetologists work with a variety of chemicals and perform services which change the hair both chemically and physically. This segment gives the student a basic knowledge of chemistry as it is applied to the cosmetology industry.
Ethnic Hair Care and Design
Learning the care and design of ethnically curly hair. This segment gives you the knowledge of artistic, scientific, and chemical principals of ethnic hair in theory, concept, and application.
The Salon Business
This segment teaches how to open and operate a salon, salon retail sales and advertising.
Cosmetology Law
This segment teaches cosmetology law in reference to the State Board of Cosmetology and the Board’s requirements as a cosmetologist, salon owner or school owner.
State Board Review: Practical and Theory
The segment is a review of each previous segment and the areas required in preparation for taking the State Board Exam.
